Enclosed Varispeed V7 Drive for 5.5 kW Three-Phase 400 V Motors

Specifications

Part Number CIMR-V7CC45P5
Brand Yaskawa
Product Series Varispeed V7 / VS-606V7 — Yaskawa's compact general-purpose inverter family.
Category Compact general-purpose AC drive (inverter / VFD) for three-phase asynchronous motors.
Definition Converts fixed-frequency three-phase mains into adjustable-frequency, adjustable-voltage output, so a standard induction motor can run at variable speed instead of fixed speed.
Model Code Breakdown Read digit by digit: CIMR = inverter; V7 = VS-606V7 series; C = supplied with digital operator (with volume potentiometer); C = European standards version; 4 = three-phase 400 V class; 5P5 = 5.5 kW max. applicable motor. Confirm against your nameplate before ordering.

Max. Applicable Motor Output 5.5 kW
Rated Output Current 14.8 A
Rated Input Current 19.6 A
Inverter Capacity 11 kVA
Max. Output Voltage Three-phase, up to 460 V AC (proportional to input voltage)
Output Frequency Range 0.1–400 Hz; max. output frequency 400 Hz (programmable)
Control Method Sine wave PWM with V/f control or open-loop vector control.
Frequency Accuracy Digital reference ±0.01% (−10 to +50 °C); analog reference ±0.5% (25 ±10 °C)
Frequency Setting Resolution Digital reference: 0.01 Hz (below 100 Hz) / 0.1 Hz (100 Hz and above). Analog reference: 1/1000 of max. output frequency. Output resolution 0.01 Hz.
Frequency Reference 0 to 10 VDC (20 kΩ), 4 to 20 mA (250 Ω), 0 to 20 mA (250 Ω), pulse train input, or the frequency setting potentiometer on the digital operator.
Accel / Decel Time 0.00 to 6000 s, acceleration and deceleration programmed independently
Overload Capacity 150% of rated output current for one minute
Braking Braking transistor built in. Continuous regenerative torque approx. 20%, and approx. 150% with the optional braking resistor. Short-term average deceleration torque for ratings of 2.2 kW and above is approx. 20% per the 400 V class table.
V/f Characteristics Any V/f pattern can be programmed
Digital Operator Supplied with the digital operator that carries the frequency-setting potentiometer — JVOP-140 in the VS-606V7 parts identification section.
Protective Structure Enclosed wall-mounted (NEMA 1). The VS-606V7 manual states that a NEMA 1 rating is optional for outputs 0P1 to 3P7 but standard for the 5P5 and 7P5 outputs, which is the group this 5.5 kW unit belongs to. If the top and bottom covers are removed for open-chassis mounting, the rating drops to IP00 and a cabinet is required.
EMC / European Standards The "CC" European standards version is covered by Yaskawa's EMC directive documentation, which pairs this model with an external line filter rated 30 A, class B: Yaskawa filter RS 3030-V7, or the Schaffner FS 5857-30-07 listed in the EMC manual. The filter is a separate part, not built into the drive.
Ambient Temperature 40 °C max. per the Yaskawa EMC conformance documentation. Humidity and altitude limits are given in the series manual.
Motor Cable Length Keep the motor cable within the maximum length given in the Yaskawa EMC manual for the class B limit that applies to your installation.
Cooling Method Confirm on the unit nameplate.
Dimensions (H × W × D) Confirm with the unit nameplate or the VS-606V7 manual. Dimensions given in the EMC documentation are for the external line filter, not for the inverter.
Net Weight Approx. 4.0 kg (8.8 lb). Confirm on the unit nameplate.
Country of Origin Information not officially documented — confirm against the nameplate. The "C" design code refers to the standards the drive was built to (European standards), not to the country of manufacture.
Condition New original or used original. Please confirm the condition with us before ordering.

Industrial Applications

  • Fans, blowers, pumps and compressors on a 400 V three-phase supply at the 5.5 kW size, where variable-speed control replaces throttling or a fixed-speed starter.
  • Conveyors and material-handling lines that need soft starting, adjustable speed and 150% overload headroom.
  • Centrifuges, grinders and mixers — duties Yaskawa lists for the V7 where open-loop vector control holds torque at low speed.
  • Machine tools, packaging machines and food-processing equipment built around a 5.5 kW motor.
  • Commercial laundry and process plant equipment where the drive runs from a standard 400 V three-phase board.
  • Like-for-like replacement of a failed V7 in an existing machine, including units originally supplied as GPD 315/V7 or VS mini V7 — names Yaskawa notes were used for earlier versions of this product.

Design Purpose

The V7 (VS-606V7) is Yaskawa's compact general-purpose inverter, and this unit sits at the upper end of the 400 V range at 5.5 kW with a 14.8 A output and an 11 kVA inverter capacity. That rating covers a single substantial motor — a pump, a fan, a conveyor drive or a process machine — rather than the small sub-1 kW auxiliaries the lower end of the range serves.

The order code tells you two things that matter more than the power rating. Both "C" positions mean this is the European standards version supplied with a digital operator: the first marks the drive as shipped with the operator that carries the frequency-setting potentiometer (JVOP-140 in the VS-606V7 parts list), so speed can be set on the front of the unit; the second marks it as built to European standards, which is why the model appears in Yaskawa's EMC directive documentation paired with an external 30 A class B line filter. That filter is a separate part you plan for, not something already inside the drive.

The enclosure is the other practical difference at this size. The VS-606V7 manual makes NEMA 1 enclosed wall-mounting standard for the 5P5 and 7P5 outputs, while it is only optional on the smaller ratings — so this 5.5 kW unit is the enclosed type and can be wall-mounted as supplied, unlike the small 0.4 kW V7 drives in this catalog that are IP20 open chassis and must go inside a cabinet. Inside, the drive runs sine wave PWM with V/f or open-loop vector control over a 0.1–400 Hz range, carries 150% overload for one minute, and has the braking transistor built in, so adding the optional braking resistor lifts regenerative torque from roughly 20% to roughly 150%.

Before you order and before you install
  • Confirm the rating and the supply: this is a Yaskawa V7 drive, order code CIMR-V7CC45P5, rated three-phase 380–460 V input, 5.5 kW / 11 kVA / 14.8 A output, 19.6 A rated input current. Size the supply, cabling and protection for 19.6 A, not for the 14.8 A output.
  • Confirm the design codes: "CC" means digital operator included and European standards build. A drive with different codes in those positions (for example the Japan-domestic-standards version) is a different specification — match the full code on the nameplate, not just the 5.5 kW rating.
  • Plan the line filter: the EMC documentation pairs this model with an external 30 A class B line filter (Yaskawa RS 3030-V7 or Schaffner FS 5857-30-07). It is not built into the drive; add it where the installation must meet EMC limits, and keep the motor cable within the length the manual allows for class B.
  • Enclosure: NEMA 1 enclosed wall-mounted is standard at this output. If you remove the top and bottom covers for open-chassis mounting, the rating becomes IP00 and the drive must be installed inside a suitable cabinet with adequate clearance.
  • Control wiring hazard — official warning: the V7 ships initialized for 2-wire control. Entering an initialization code resets all parameters; if the drive is wired for 3-wire control and 2-wire initialization is applied, the motor may run in reverse with no run command applied, which can cause equipment damage or personal injury. Verify your control wiring first.
  • Discharge the DC bus before service: per the V7 manual, do not touch circuit components until the main input power is off; the status LEDs and digital operator display go out when bus voltage falls below 50 VDC, and you must then wait a further five minutes. Do not connect or disconnect wiring with the input power on. Work must be done by qualified electrical personnel.
  • Ambient temperature: the Yaskawa EMC documentation gives 40 °C as the maximum ambient temperature. Provide ventilation and keep the cooling path free of dust.
  • Check the nameplate data: cooling method, dimensions and country of origin are not published for every unit of this model — read them from the nameplate before finalising the installation.
  • Confirm the condition with us: tell us whether you need new, used or refurbished before ordering.

Common Failure Modes

  • Overcurrent or ground-fault trip — a shorted motor cable, grounded winding or jammed load forces a protective shutdown. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V7 Drive Overcurrent Fault Troubleshooting".
  • DC-bus overvoltage or undervoltage alarms — a weak supply, an unbalanced 400 V feed or a regenerative load swings the bus out of range. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V7 DC Bus Overvoltage and Undervoltage Alarms Explained".
  • Overtemperature trip from a stalled cooling fan or dust-packed heatsink — at 5.5 kW the drive dissipates real heat, and a blocked cooling path is a common summer failure. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V7 Cooling Fan and Heatsink Overheat Trip Fix".
  • DC-bus capacitor ageing — electrolytic capacitors lose capacitance with heat and years of service, causing intermittent trips and weak bus hold-up. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa VFD DC-Bus Capacitor Aging Diagnosis".
  • IGBT / power module failure — sustained overload, output short circuit or poor cooling destroys the output stage. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa AC Drive IGBT Module Failure Diagnosis".
  • Digital operator or potentiometer failure — the JVOP-140 keypad and its frequency-setting potentiometer are mechanical wear items; a worn potentiometer gives an unstable or drifting speed reference. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V7 Digital Operator JVOP-140 Setup and Potentiometer Failure Fix".
  • Lost or wrong parameters after initialization — applying the wrong 2-wire / 3-wire initialization resets every setting and can reverse motor rotation. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V7 Parameter Initialization and 2-Wire 3-Wire Control Setup".
