Compact Vector AC Drive for Yaskawa V1000 200 V Single-Phase Supply

Specifications

Part Number CIMR-VCBA0012BAA
Also Known As VZAB-2P2-BAA (listed by one drive distributor; confirm against your nameplate)
Brand Yaskawa
Product Series V1000 (CIMR-VC) — Yaskawa's compact current-vector AC drive family, the successor generation to the V7 / VS-606V7.
Category Compact vector AC drive (inverter / VFD) with single-phase input and three-phase motor output.
Definition Converts fixed-frequency single-phase mains into variable-frequency three-phase output, so a standard three-phase induction motor, or a permanent-magnet motor, can run at controlled speed on a single-phase supply.
Input Power Supply 200 V class, single-phase input per Yaskawa's published data: 200–240 V, −15% to +10%, 50/60 Hz ±5%. One distributor describes the unit as accepting single-phase or three-phase 230 V input — confirm on the nameplate.
Output Three-phase 230 V AC (proportional to input)
Rated Output Current 12 A normal duty (ND) / 11 A heavy duty (HD)
Max. Applicable Motor Power 3 kW normal duty (ND) / 2.2 kW heavy duty (HD)
Duty Rating Two ratings on one frame: ND (normal duty, fan and pump class) allows 120% overload for 60 s; HD (heavy duty) allows 150% overload for 60 s. Select the rating that matches your load.
Overload Tolerance 120% for 60 s (ND); 150% for 60 s (HD)
Control Method V/f control and open-loop (sensorless) vector control, with online auto-tuning; supports permanent-magnet motors without feedback.
Motor Types Induction motor and permanent-magnet (PM) motor. No encoder feedback is used.
Speed Control Range 0.01–400 Hz; maximum output frequency 400 Hz
Braking The braking transistor is external on this unit — a braking resistor must be added when the duty needs it. High flux braking is provided to cut braking time. One distributor lists 100% torque for 12 s every 120 s into a 60 Ω minimum external resistor (not supplied); confirm the resistor rating for your duty.
Regenerative Capacity Not available (no regenerative unit)
Torque Control Not available
Motor Thermal Protection Standard
Safe Torque Off Safe disable inputs for Safe Torque Off (STO), rated SIL2 / performance level PL d
I/O Count 2 analog inputs, 1 analog output, 6 digital inputs, 3 digital outputs per Yaskawa's data; one distributor additionally lists 1 pulse input, 1 pulse output and 1 relay contact set.
EMC Filter Not built in — an external filter is required where EMC compliance is needed.
Ambient Temperature −10 to +50 °C. Max. humidity 95% non-condensing; max. altitude 1000 m without derating, 3000 m with derating.

Country of Origin Information not officially documented — confirm against the nameplate.
Condition New original or used original. Please confirm the condition with us before ordering.

Industrial Applications

  • Workshops, farms and small plants that have only a single-phase 230 V supply but run three-phase motors — this drive supplies the missing third phase.
  • Fans, blowers and pumps rated up to 3 kW where the normal-duty rating and 120% overload cover the duty.
  • Conveyors, mixers, packaging machines and small machine tools up to 2.2 kW under the heavy-duty rating.
  • Stand-alone equipment and OEM panels where a compact IP20 drive mounts inside the control cabinet.
  • Retrofitting a fixed-speed three-phase motor to variable-speed control without changing the motor or upgrading the site supply.
  • Like-for-like replacement of a failed V1000 or an older V7 drive, where keeping the same mounting footprint and wiring shortens the downtime.

Design Purpose

The V1000 is Yaskawa's compact current-vector drive and the generation that followed the V7 — Yaskawa published a direct V7-to-V1000 transition guide for exactly this replacement path. This particular unit is built for a problem that general-purpose drives usually ignore: sites that have a single-phase supply but a three-phase motor. It takes single-phase 200–240 V in and delivers a variable-frequency three-phase output, so a standard three-phase motor can run at controlled speed without a three-phase feeder.

The dual rating is the second thing to understand. One frame carries two current ratings: 12 A normal duty driving motors up to 3 kW with 120% overload for 60 s, and 11 A heavy duty driving motors up to 2.2 kW with 150% overload for 60 s. Fan and pump loads sit in the ND band; constant-torque loads such as conveyors and mixers belong in HD. Picking the band is a selection decision, not a formality, because it sets both the motor size and the overload headroom.

Two specification details catch people out, and both are worth checking before ordering. First, the braking transistor on this unit is external — the braking resistor is a separate part you have to size and add, which is the opposite of the V7 in this catalog, where the braking transistor is built in. Second, there is no internal EMC filter, so installations that must meet EMC limits need an external filter. On the side of capability, the drive offers V/f and open-loop vector control with online auto-tuning, runs permanent-magnet motors without encoder feedback, carries Safe Torque Off inputs rated to SIL2 / PL d, and covers 0.01–400 Hz in a 128 × 140 × 163 mm IP20 enclosure weighing 2.4 kg.

Before you order and before you install
  • Confirm the input phases: this is a Yaskawa V1000 drive, order code CIMR-VCBA0012BAA, listed by Yaskawa for a single-phase 200–240 V input with three-phase 230 V output. One distributor describes it as accepting single- or three-phase input — go by the nameplate and the manual for your unit, and do not connect it to a 400 V supply.
  • Choose the duty rating: 12 A / 3 kW with 120% overload for 60 s in normal duty, or 11 A / 2.2 kW with 150% overload for 60 s in heavy duty. Match the band to your load type — fans and pumps to ND, constant-torque loads to HD.
  • Plan the braking resistor: the braking transistor is external on this model. If your axis decelerates frequently or carries inertia, size and fit an external braking resistor; the drive does not brake regeneratively.
  • Plan the EMC filter: no EMC filter is built in. Add an external filter where the installation has to meet EMC requirements.
  • Safe Torque Off wiring: the STO inputs are rated SIL2 / performance level PL d. They must be wired and verified by qualified personnel as part of the machine's safety function — do not leave safety inputs unconnected or jumpered without a risk assessment.
  • Enclosure and ventilation: IP20 / UL Open Type. Install inside a suitable control cabinet with the clearances given in the manual, and keep the heatsink and cooling path free of dust.
  • Power safety: the DC bus stores energy after the supply is removed. Isolate all supply conductors and wait for the bus to discharge as specified in the Yaskawa manual before touching any wiring or circuit parts. Work must be done by qualified electrical personnel.
  • Check unconfirmed data: country of origin is not officially documented, and the mounting dimensions and heat-loss figures come from a single distributor listing — verify against the manual and the nameplate.
  • Confirm the condition with us: tell us whether you need new, used or refurbished before ordering.

Common Failure Modes

  • Overcurrent or ground-fault trip — a shorted motor cable, grounded winding or jammed load forces a protective stop. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V1000 Drive Overcurrent Fault Troubleshooting".
  • Undervoltage or overvoltage alarms on the DC bus — common on single-phase supplies with weak wiring or heavy voltage drop, and on regenerative loads. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V1000 Single-Phase Input Wiring and Undervoltage Alarm Fix".
  • Overvoltage trip during deceleration — when no external braking resistor is fitted, or the fitted resistor is open-circuit or above the minimum resistance, regeneration has nowhere to go. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V1000 Braking Resistor Selection and External Braking Transistor Setup".
  • Cooling fan or heatsink overtemperature trip — dust, blocked clearance or a failed fan in a crowded cabinet. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V1000 Cooling Fan and Heatsink Overheat Trip Fix".
  • DC-bus capacitor degradation — heat and years of service reduce bus hold-up and cause intermittent faults. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa VFD DC-Bus Capacitor Aging Diagnosis".
  • Drive will not run because of the Safe Torque Off inputs — an open, mis-wired or unconfigured STO channel inhibits output. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V1000 Safe Torque Off (STO) Wiring and SIL2 Setup Guide".
  • Wrong duty rating selected — running a constant-torque load on the normal-duty setting gives repeated overload trips. Related troubleshooting: see our article on "Yaskawa V1000 HD vs ND Duty Rating Selection Guide".
