Analog and Pulse Train Servo Amplifier for Yaskawa Sigma-7 Axes

Specifications

Part Number SGD7S-1R6A00A
Brand Yaskawa
Product Series Sigma-7 (Σ-7) SERVOPACK, SGD7S single-axis models
Category Single-axis AC servo amplifier (servo drive / SERVOPACK) for rotary and linear servomotors — a motion-control device, not a general-purpose variable frequency drive for induction motors.
Model Code Breakdown SGD7S = Sigma-7 single-axis SERVOPACK; 1R6 = 0.2 kW maximum applicable motor capacity; A = 200 VAC class; 00 = analog voltage / pulse train reference (no fieldbus on board); final A = design revision order A.
Definition Converts incoming AC supply into controlled three-phase output that regulates the position, speed and torque of a matched servomotor according to pulse train or analog voltage commands from the host controller.
Command Interface Analog voltage / pulse train reference. Position commands arrive as a pulse train, speed and torque commands as an analog voltage. No fieldbus is built in — where the controller uses MECHATROLINK-II, MECHATROLINK-III or EtherCAT, the interface code changes to 10, 20 or A0 respectively.
Applicable Servomotors Yaskawa Sigma-7 servomotors in the 200 W class — SGM7J-02 and SGM7A-02. Send us your motor nameplate and we confirm the pairing before you order.

Industrial Applications

  • Conventional PLC-based motion control — position axes driven by pulse train output and speed or torque axes driven by an analog voltage, with no motion network on the machine.
  • Electronics and semiconductor equipment — placement heads, dispensing valves, wafer handling stages and inspection axes.
  • Packaging and converting machinery — film feed, sealing, cutting and labelling axes on machines that do not use a servo network.
  • Small engraving machines, precision X-Y stages and test rigs in the 200 W class.
  • Machine tools and metalworking equipment — auxiliary axes, indexers, tool changers and feed drives.
  • Like-for-like replacement on existing Sigma-7 machines: swapping a single failed amplifier where the controller already issues pulse and analog commands.

Tell us the machine, the axis and the controller type and we confirm whether this rating and command interface are the right match before you order.

Design Purpose

The SGD7S SERVOPACK is the amplifier stage between the controller and the servomotor. On this analog voltage / pulse train model the host controller issues commands directly — a pulse train for position, an analog voltage for speed or torque — rather than sending them over a motion network. The amplifier converts those commands into precisely regulated motor current using IGBT-based PWM with sine-wave current drive, and closes the loop with serial encoder feedback coming back from the motor. The job is not simply to vary speed; it is to hold position, regulate speed and limit torque accurately and repeatedly. That is the fundamental difference from the variable-frequency drives in this catalog: a VFD varies the speed of an induction motor for fans, pumps and conveyors, while this servo amplifier closes a high-resolution loop around a servomotor for motion control.

The interface code is what defines this variant. Within the same 1.6 A rating, order code 00 is the analog voltage / pulse train model, 10 is the MECHATROLINK-II model, 20 is the MECHATROLINK-III model and A0 the EtherCAT model. All four drive the same class of motor at the same power, but only one matches the way your controller talks to the axis — so the amplifier must be chosen on the command interface, not on the power rating. This is the model for machines where a PLC or positioning module issues the commands directly.

Performance comes from the Sigma-7 platform: a 3.1 kHz speed frequency response, ripple compensation and vibration suppression for stable settling, and safe torque off rated SIL 3 / PL-e Cat 3 built into the standard product, with SS1, SS2 and SLS available for machines that need controlled stopping and speed limiting.

One design point matters when planning the installation. This rating has no built-in regenerative resistor, and none is supplied with the amplifier. Axes with high inertia, vertical loads or frequent emergency stops need an external regenerative resistor, and the minimum allowable external resistance is 40 Ω.

Before you order and before you install
  • Match the motor: this is a Yaskawa Sigma-7 servo amplifier for the 200 W class, built for Sigma-7 servomotors (SGM7J-02, SGM7A-02). Send us your motor nameplate so we can confirm the pairing.
  • Confirm the command interface first: this is the analog voltage / pulse train model and has no fieldbus on board. If your controller commands the axis over MECHATROLINK-II, MECHATROLINK-III or EtherCAT, this is the wrong variant — tell us the controller type and we will point you to the correct interface code.
  • Plan the regenerative resistor: no regenerative resistor is built into this rating and none is included. High-inertia loads, vertical axes and frequent emergency stops need an external resistor, minimum allowable resistance 40 Ω. Tell us the load and duty cycle and we size it with your quote.
  • Check the supply arrangement: the main circuit accepts single-phase or three-phase 200–240 V AC on this rating. Confirm how your cabinet feeds the axis, and let us know if you need the dedicated single-phase input variant.
  • Wire the safety circuit: safe torque off is built in and must be wired correctly, otherwise the axis will not enable. Verify the STO and EDM wiring against the Yaskawa manual before commissioning.
  • Power safety: servo amplifiers store energy in the DC bus. Disconnect all supply phases and wait for the bus to discharge (per the Yaskawa manual) before any wiring, inspection or service. Installation and commissioning must be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Plan for commissioning: parameters must be set for your motor and mechanics and auto-tuning should be run before the axis goes into production. Back up the existing parameter set before swapping the amplifier, and check the pulse output format and analog scaling on the controller side.
  • Confirming the details: send us your part number and we confirm enclosure rating, operating temperature, dimensions, net weight and country of origin for your unit before you order.
  • Confirm the condition with us: tell us whether you need new or used before ordering.

Common Failure Modes

  • Overvoltage or regenerative overload alarm — frequent emergency stops, vertical axes and high-inertia loads push regenerated energy back into the DC bus. Because this rating has no built-in regenerative resistor, a correctly sized external resistor is usually the fix.
  • Overcurrent alarm — a shorted motor or encoder cable, a grounded motor winding or a mechanically jammed load drives protective shutdown.
  • Axis does not move or drifts on pulse command — wrong pulse output format on the controller, disturbed pulse wiring or incorrect analog scaling on speed and torque commands.
  • Feedback or encoder alarm — damaged encoder wiring, contamination or electrical noise interrupts the closed loop, leaving the axis unable to hold position.
  • Servo not ready with no alarm cleared — the safe torque off circuit is open or the EDM wiring is incorrect, so the amplifier refuses to enable.
  • Main-circuit supply error or undervoltage alarm — supply dips, loose terminals or a failed contactor drop the bus below the amplifier's threshold.
  • Thermal fault / overheating — blocked ventilation, high ambient temperature or a heatsink loaded with dust raises internal temperature.
  • Parameter loss after replacement — cleared or corrupted parameters leave the amplifier unable to run the axis.

If your amplifier displays a specific alarm code, send us the exact code together with the servomotor model, the controller type and the load description — we will help diagnose the fault and quote the matched replacement.
