Buyer Benefits
  • Genuine ABB 3HAC025918-001, the DSQC653 digital I/O unit with relay outputs for ABB IRC5 controllers.
  • Electromechanical relay contacts provide galvanic isolation between the IRC5 control circuit and the load circuit — the key difference from the solid-state transistor outputs of the DSQC652 (3HAC025917-001).
  • DeviceNet distributed I/O device. Node address is set by DIP switch, and signals must be defined in the system parameters before the channels are available to RAPID programs.
  • Supplied without connectors — the matching connector set 3HAC026648-001 must be ordered separately.
  • DSQC651, DSQC652 and DSQC653 are sibling modules and are not interchangeable; confirm by complete part number before ordering.
  • Each unit is inspected before shipment, with anti-static export packaging and full order tracking.

Digital I/O Unit with Relay Outputs for ABB IRC5 Controllers

Specifications

Part Number 3HAC025918-001
ABB Type Designation DSQC 653
Brand ABB
Category Digital I/O unit with relay outputs (DeviceNet distributed I/O device)
Definition ABB 3HAC025918-001 is the DSQC653 digital I/O unit with relay outputs for ABB IRC5 controllers.
Function Provides digital input channels and relay contact outputs for interfacing the IRC5 controller with external devices such as valves, lamps, contactor coils and machine signals.
I/O Configuration 8 digital inputs and 8 outputs (per distributor documentation). Confirm the channel arrangement against your system parameters before ordering.
Output Type Electromechanical relay contacts — not solid-state transistor outputs. This is the key difference from the DSQC652.
Isolation Relay contacts provide galvanic isolation between the IRC5 control circuit and the load circuit, allowing loads at a different voltage to be switched without external interposing relays.
Communication DeviceNet (distributed I/O device on the IRC5 DeviceNet master bus)
Operating Voltage 24 V DC (control circuit)
System Compatibility ABB IRC5. Reported for IRC5 M2004 and variants; confirm your controller type, generation and option configuration before ordering.
Connector Note Supplied without connectors. The matching connector set 3HAC026648-001 must be ordered separately.
Configuration Requirement Requires explicit configuration after installation: node address assignment via DIP switches and signal definition in the system parameters before the channels are accessible to RAPID programs.
Sibling Modules DSQC651 (3HAC025784-001) and DSQC652 (3HAC025917-001) are sibling modules, not interchangeable. Confirm by complete part number.
Net Weight 0.4 kg (per distributor catalog)
Gross Weight 0.64 kg (per distributor catalog)
Customs Tariff 85389091 (per distributor catalog)
Dimensions Not confirmed (published sources are in conflict)
Country of Origin Not confirmed (no ABB official direct confirmation)
Condition New original or used original. Please confirm the condition with us before ordering.

Industrial Applications

  • Welding robot cells, where relay contacts help prevent welding current transients from coupling back into the IRC5 through the I/O lines.
  • Cells with loads that cannot be switched by 24 V DC solid-state outputs — for example 230 V AC solenoid valves, 110 V AC signal lamps and alarms, or motor starter coils at a different voltage.
  • Machine-tending and material-handling stations that need galvanic separation between the robot control circuit and the controlled equipment.
  • Electrically noisy environments where complete isolation between the control circuit and the load circuit improves immunity.
  • General IRC5 DeviceNet I/O expansion where the system integrator specifies relay outputs rather than transistor outputs.

Design Purpose

The DSQC653 (3HAC025918-001) is the relay-output member of the ABB IRC5 DeviceNet digital I/O family. Where the DSQC652 switches 24 V DC through solid-state transistor outputs, the DSQC653 switches through electromechanical relay contacts. That single difference defines its purpose: the relay contacts provide complete galvanic isolation between the control circuit (the IRC5) and the load circuit, so a load running at a different voltage can be switched directly without adding external interposing relays. This makes the module the natural choice when a cell contains solenoids, lamps or contactor coils operating at voltages other than the controller's 24 V DC logic supply, or where electrical noise requires isolation. Like other IRC5 DeviceNet I/O modules, it is not plug-and-play: the node address is set by DIP switch, and signals must be defined in the system parameters before the channels can be used by RAPID programs.

Safety & Handling Notes
  • Not safety-rated: the relay contacts on the DSQC653 are standard outputs, not safety-rated contacts. Do not use this module to implement emergency stop circuits, protective stops or any safety function.
  • Observe contact ratings: relays have defined voltage and current limits. Verify the load does not exceed the contact rating before connecting, and consider suppression on inductive loads.
  • Energy isolation: de-energize, lock out and verify zero voltage before installing or removing the module.
  • ESD protection: handle the unit with electrostatic discharge protection and avoid touching connector pins.
  • Check the node address: set the DIP-switch node address before powering up. A duplicate address on the DeviceNet bus will cause a bus fault and can take other nodes offline.
  • Connectors are not included: order the connector set 3HAC026648-001 at the same time to avoid an unusable module on arrival.
  • Qualified personnel: installation and commissioning must be performed by personnel familiar with the IRC5 I/O system; verify the controller recognises the node before returning the cell to production.

Common Failure Modes

  • Loss of communication with the DeviceNet node, often caused by a duplicate or incorrectly set DIP-switch node address.
  • Output channels that do not respond because the signals have not been defined in the system parameters.
  • Relay contacts that have welded or worn after prolonged switching of inductive loads or loads above the contact rating.
  • Input channels reading permanently on or off due to wiring faults, missing common or a failed field device.
  • Module not recognised after replacement because the node address or option configuration does not match the original.
  • Module delivered without connectors, preventing installation until the connector set is sourced.

Specific alarm codes are not officially documented for this model. Please contact us with the fault code displayed on your controller for accurate diagnosis.
