The axis-2 motor converts electrical energy from the drive unit into controlled rotation of the robot’s lower arm. The integrated pinion meshes directly with the axis-2 gearbox to transmit torque to the lower arm, while the built-in resolver/encoder feeds back precise rotor position to the IRC5 controller. On the IRB 6600, axis 2 carries most of the robot’s vertical load during lifting motions, so the motor and pinion are matched at the factory to keep backlash within tolerance and ensure repeatable positioning under load.
